Need some lay up techniques

Well im getting tierd of waiting for a compostie technican to come work for our company so i wanna try and do some of the small easy items.

How can i keep the weave of the 2x2 twill from distorting? when i push into the corners?

I read that tape technique which i will try but i dont think that would work for me.

Should i just lay the materal into the mold softly, then layer everything close the bagging and infuse the resin?
Would waiting for the resin to get into the material help from distortion?

lets start here

Are you VIP with poly or epoxy?

Try using Duratec Top coat PER gel coating by spray first, let it late B stage so it is still a little sticky. Then you can take the time to softly lay in the CF cloth.

Experience…is worth priceless!

My students are too green right now but also try Cerritos college composite for some techs too…but there is a real shortage of train people. I just wish more of my adults would stay in the class but some HS students can get unruly, even when their parents are called too…

See some of their posts in the education section.

If you are also going to clear coat the piece, you can lay the material up in the mold without a surface or gel coat depending on whether you are using epoxy or PER/VER. Use a tack spray like Super 77 or the like to hold the fabric in place until you infuse. If there are not any 90 degree angles in the mold or other complex shapes, you might not need any tack spray. In some of my molds, I absolutely have to use a tack spray to get the fabric to site tightly against the mold or I will get a thick layer of resin on the part surface against the mold. Also, make sure that the resin is low viscosity to penetrate the fabric layers. For example, I can use a 200 cps VER to infuse through up to 8 layers of fabric no problem using the RobinAir vacuum pump to get high vacuum.
