I was wondering if anyone knows where to go to get a custom body kit made? I have an idea for one, but lack the knowledge and tools to do it myself. I was curious if there is a company that I can just take a picture of what I want and they can design and make a kit from my idea? Is there any place that does something like that?

Try your local Fiberglass shops and there are a couple like Lucky and another one that does Air Cooled VW’s in Vegas. Try checking out a Hot VW’s magazine.
BUT, you better be sitting down to hear the costs of doing a one off body kit with the multi plugs, molds and parts!:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Thanks for your response, I’ll probably have to go that route however, I think I’m looking for more of a manufacturing company that would have the ability to do a larger run than a one off. I’m considering to start a business or I would really like to, but initially I would have to start out real small and try to slowly grow. Right now I’m just getting some research done. I don’t know if I really trust a local body shop, I really want to have a perfect fit and quality. I would eventually have my own shop with professional equipment and employees, however I have to start somewhere and since I can’t produce anything on my own I would have to out-source. I found this one company online, but they are located in Canada ( http://carboniointakes.com/composite/services.php ). I would eventually have to travel to the place to meet with someone to get everything going and that is a little further than I would like to travel. I was thinking there would be a similar company in California or Arizona.

These 2x that I stated are FIBERGLASS production shops that are in Vegas area. That is what they do. They are not a body shop!

How much do you think a body kit plugs, molds and 1st articles (parts) are going to cost you?
Do you have a spare car to leave with them for say…6 months to a year?
I know it’s going to cost an arm and a leg, but if you have an approximate of what you think a project like this would cost, let me know… If and when I’m ready to tackle something like this I do have a vehicle I can leave with them… for right now I’m gathering all the information I can and then will come up with a plan.
Ok, let’s throw out some prices of taking a car, materials, making the mods / plugs, making the molds, prepping the molds and making he parts in ball park figures…

I’d go in armed with a good set of sketches or drawings, unless they can do that also. I’d go find a kid in design school to see if they might work something up for you, so that they would have something to use in there own portfolio when they go to look for work.
