Need some help on a Hot Tub Project (part one)

First Guys, thanks for any help you give. I’m new to spraying and new to this board

I have a Hot Tub shell (fiber glass with gel coat) Im converting to an out door above ground spa. I’m removing all the jets and putting in a water fall.

Part one of my Project

Im using http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=106 and block the holes by,

taping wax paper on the inside of the tub<<<<< is wax paper ok to use so gel coat wont stick?
then putting piece of Styrofoam over the wax paper to hold it in place
Then for the back side I will use the evercoat tinted according and mix right and brush it on the same thickness as the original get coat 3/32 approx 2.38 mm <<<<<can i brush this on to 2.38 mm or do half that, let it dry, then sand (200 grit) then apply second coat, if so how long should it dry in between coats.

After the gel coat is applied I will then sand and do my layers of fiberglass to the same thickness of the tub ( 1/4 inch ) <<<<< again do I sand the gel coat with 200 to to apply resin before matting.

Thanks again for all you help and suggestions

Personally i wouldn’t use wax paper, i don’t think it would be a good barrier…

I’d suggest some thin plasic material - say a side cut from a plastic tub/box. Apply several coats of mould release wax then press into position. This can be secured with tape and a back support applied… I’d avoid styrofoam as it will react withh the resin ( even vapours ).

Once secured, you can apply the gel in several thin layers, allowing to tack over (tacky, but doesn’t transfer to glove when touched). Then use some chopped strand tissue before building up your laminate in thin layers. I wouldn’t try to complete the job in one go, but it really depends upon your resin… I’d laminate maybe 2mm max before leaving it overnight to cure… Its a good idea to scarf the patch into the surrounding area too.

Hope this helps…
