need some direction on making climate control panel mold

i need to relocate my climate control panel in my car and need to duplicate a portion of the climate control panel to use as a trim piece.

my plan was to make a mold of the outside of the panel and pull that off and use the inside portion to make the trim piece that i need. see attached photo, the part outlined in red is what i need to make.

my question is what is the best way to go about make a mold of the outside of the existing panel without damaging or getting resin on it?

Thanks

If you can sacrifice some surface quality of the mold, you could vacuum bag the part you have and layup a mold over the bagged part. You’ll have to tidy up the mold surface after the fact or the part you pull from it cause you’re mold surface is gonna duplicate the bag film instead of a nice polished part. None of this should be a problem since you only need one part.

You’ll have to account for the thickness of the bag film in your mold and finished part.

Spray 6-8 thin coats of PVA. PVA creates an impervious barrier so the substrate won’t get damaged. You’ll still need to have draft to release the mold from the pattern and you should definitely test the PVA in an inconspicuous place on the pattern just to make sure it won’t damage the surface.

what stores carry PVA?

Also would painters tape work if put on carefully?
