I need to make some aero section carbon fibre struts. I have one to copy;
It’s about 2 feet long 3/4" wide and 1/4"thick. The criteria is it has to be solid carbon centre, and a couple of layers of twill on the outside. All pre-preg.
I’ve got no problem making a two-piece mould from the sample, but I’m not sure how to make the finished parts.
Any Ideas?
I’m no expert but here is my take. Make your 2 piece mold, put 2 layer of twill in it leaving the ends loose fill the centre with unidirectional, then fold the twill over and close the mold. IT may take a bit of trial and error to get the right amount and placement of the uni. The orininal part could be a pultrusion with a twill wrapper.
The mold will have to be strong (thick) enough to be able to clamp all the layers together
