Need help not sure what to use???

I am a newbi I never made a mold be for but I have worked with fiberglass and a little of carbon, Just used something that already exsited and alot of over laying…

Well here it is, Im looking to make two plugs, not sure what to use. They also make a mold for the passenger side of my front bumper theres a pic. I not sure it i like it being on the out side covering the bumper like that. But if some one can guide me in the right direction of where to start and the best material to us on going foward on make the plug. Thank you.

I have made a mold that I think is simialr to what you are wanting to do with the headlight. Mine is for a twin turbo supra, it will duct air directly into the turbo at the track. What I did was completely gut a headlight down to the plastic shell and then start filling it with Duraglass and sanding the shit out of it, for probably 80 hrs to get it just right. Then I sprayed it with Duratec primer and polished it.

Once that was done I pulled a mold off of it. Actaully, I just did a test friday to get the infusion lines in the right location (this thing is a PITA to bag). I will post some pics when I get it one finished.

Nice work.

I agree with you on the PITA thing. Bagging 90 degree angles (the area that looks like it will be cut out) is asking for bridging/bubbles.

Thanks. That thing looks nasty I am trying to do the same also, I have a top mount maifold with the turbo right behind the left head light n just trying to feed it air at the track. Im not sure how easy it is to get a JDM Integra head light. But ill will search. Now anything about the lower hole?

you could also try to take a mold off the back of your headlight for a starting point. It really wouldn’t need to be that great, just something to get you going. As long as you are careful a to protect the headlight you shouldn’t hurt anything.

see I told you people will help you here !!!

try and find an aftermarket jdm headlight. OBX had them at one point

Yeah, if they have them aftermarket that would work perfectly. If you want I can check and see if they are available from OBX, I own a performance shop so I have lots of wholesale accounts and I think I can get OBX.

For vacuum bagging those real odd shapes, you can use latex and bandages gauges for a shaped vacuum bag. Or silicone…

Thanks Every bit of advice helps me alot…I am going to try using the back of the head light. .I was thinking along the lines of making a frame of the back side and the going from there…Maybe cardboard or some along that line?

I have a jug of liquid latex in my closet. Just curious what you use to thin it with? Some type of alcohol right?

Don’t thin it out…and only use water to clean the tools. Try a small test sample first and use bandage gause as a reinforcement (after a few cured layers of pure Latex) so when you pull on it , it won’t rip on you.

Gotcha.

The only reason I mentioned thinning it was because I read a few months ago about a guy who used thinned latex to create his own custom formed bags. Just cant remember the site.

Found the article I was talking about. It was a 50/50 mix of distilled water and amonia.
