Need Epoxy Source in Canada?

EDIT, just saw the sticky on Canada sources, but could still use some very specific pointers on the below if you happen to have it:-)

Hey Guys,
First post here but long time lurker;-)

So, I’m based in a part of the world (China), where it can sometimes be tricky to get products with repeatability and spec sheets and not have to buy a ton the first time around.

But over the holidays, a friend from here is home in Canada and he can bring some resin back to me. I am not sure, but I think products shipped from the US could end up in customs, and given the holidays and all, I prefer to order from a Canadian shop.

This is just for a few prototype items and as I can’t ask my friend to lug too much stuff back, here’s what I need:

  • A brand you guys trust
  • A vendor which will sell in smaller quantities. Preferably 1qt or 2qt.
  • Specifically, a room-temp epoxy resin (possibly with a slow hardener option), that I can post-cure at about 80-90C (175-200F)
  • For lack of better words, a more high-tech and stronger epoxy than just West 105
  • Wet lay-up and bagged, not infused

I guess that was all. Hope someone can point me in the right direction and Happy Holidays!

Hi Gecko, also in SH. Heard you met with Neal from CA composites. My business partner and I are both Americans. Maybe we can catch up sometime. Always nice to meet other expats involved with composites.

Great to hear from you. I had actually tried to PM you but… waiting to obtain that exact privilege.
I had a sneaky, sneaky plan to ask if I could drop by your operation one day;-) Basically just to educate myself.
I used to work a bit on sailboats back when I raced but been away from it for too long and now educating myself again - though for a few different purposes this time. I’ll tell you all about it though it’s not really that exciting, haha.

That said, I do have one or two projects that with a bit of luck could end up being a something I’d like to produce. Plan now is to start prototyping myself and keep costs down and then later on, perhaps outsource if there is a market for the products.
Anyways, would love to swing by and just take it all in if if at all possible.

I messaged Canyon so hopefully I’ll be allowed to PM in a day or so;-)

Cheers,
David

Hi David,

Sure no problem. Our shop is a bit of a mess right now as we are still in the remodeling process and also producing parts. We just moved in the shop in the beginning of November. Probably after the new year we can invite you over. Once your PM works, send me your phone number, or Wechat (if you have it).

Cheers,

Howard

Sounds great:-)
My shop (at home) is messy too right now, haha.

Happy Holidays and I’ll get in touch soonish.

You should contact JP at compositescanada.com, that’s who I get all of my epoxy from here in Canada, and they will sell in small quantities.

Thanks, I should have gotten back on this and said, I did actually reach out to compositescanada.com.
Now, the hold up is that my friend is in a mountain cabin somewhere without internet and I wans’t smart enough to ask for a shipping address beforehand, haha.

Thanks though!

I use Freeman Supply (www.freemansupply.ca/aboutus.htm) from time to time. They are local for me. They sell in small qty for many items.
