Mylar Polypropylene release film

Reading through the last Professional Boat Builder, they quote Nylon or Polypropylene release film as a easy way of sealing CNC female moulds. I’ve tried doing some search but I don’t come up with anything. Have any of you guys used this? Is there any self-adhesive film that will conform good over a female machined cnc mould?

Cheers,
Jordi

Self adhesive? I have used Teflease MG2 from Airtech, but it is utterly expensive.

There are stretchable nylons that can be used. SL800 from Airtech comes to my mind. Use a vacuum to get them in place, or hold them in place.

SL200 could be used as well, more stretch, thinner, but more prone to leaking.

Funny. The first thing that popped into my mind was SL200, spray adhesive and vacuum. Might actually work!

For some student projects I had them CNC a cavity in a slightly higher density EPS foam, vacuum PVA film in, and use that as a mould. Super cheap (if you have access to CNC equipment) and quick. Surface quality is so-so, but student labour is cheap. Sanding is fun…

MDF plug for the Quant 28 covered with Mylar film prior to the carbon skin and foam core which where wet layed and vacuumed ontop. Its ok for flat or constant cambered surfaces but complex shapes with double curvature its a real pain and not worth the time it talkes to lay down imho. Dont expect multiple pulls off it.
