My landlord is not happy! lol

Well i just had a visit from my landlord about the smell of everything that I am doing. I guess my neighbors to the right and left of me are complaining about the smell that my shop is making and it is seeping into their facility. Is there anything I can do to reduce the styrene smell that everything is letting off? I spray all my gel coats in a booth but I guess they can smell it next door. I am immune I think to it so I don’t smell anything when I am in the shop  If I smell anything it is the smell of money hahaha… If anyone can help me reduce the smell that I am letting off would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem with my former shop neighbors… lucky for me there were three other composites businesses. In the same business complex, but there will always be at least one neighbor who complains.

Go to HomeDepot and look at those huge box type fans they have … get one, or two if you can and open your large dock door with the fans set into the doorway blowing the fumes out the door. This helps tremendously.

Second, buy some orange odor suppressor liquid from Werksberg. It changes the odor of PER and VER so it won’t be as awful smelling.

Install a paint booth with activated carbon/charcoal filters on the exit side of the booth or install a waterfall filter on the booth. If you do get the charcoal filters they are pricey and will need to be changed at least once a month.

Lastly, don’t keep your shop closed up when working… open the doors up so air moves thru.

And some inside secrets… say a friendly hello to each neighbor every day or at least each time you see them. Visit your business neighbor when they are not too busy and just chat a friendly talk with them about anything. Buy them lunch sometime, or if they drink buy them whatever they drink   It works, trust me. And lastly ask the neighbor if there is anything they need… a helping hand, maybe if it’s a lady who hasn’t had “any” in a while you could help her LOL.

I have good relations with my neighbors already but I have a kids gym next door on one side and a morgage place on the other. It is in an industrial building so I guess they take the chance rather then a retail location. I will try that stuff from werksberg! It is average 15 degrees here so I can not leave my doors open :frowning:

i see, that is a bad location for frp shop.

Epoxy may be a way for you to go instead of polyester or vinylester resin. Epoxy has low odor.

rookie, do you have something to cover the floor with. Maybe roofing tarp or something. Sometimes, you have resins on the floor and if someone step on it, he might be smearing those resins all over the area where he walked on. So Maybe have a different shoes when you’re working inside and wear a different shoes when you’re ready to leave work?.

just a suggestion.
