my home made degassing chamber / resin trap

Here is what i made:

Old pressure cooker for the chamber
1/2" lexan lid
Vacuum gauge
Brass fittings
1/4 turm shut off valve

Total cost approx £20

What is the diameter of the Lexan?

We use 30mm (approx 1-1/4") thickness on 45cm (1-1/2 ft) diameter barrels, and this bends 1/4" (6mm) under full vacuum.

If the handles are riveted through, you can add some loc-tite on them to seal them. Makes a difference.

The Thickness of the lexan is 12mm and diameter is 250mm this does bend a little, probably about 2mm, the handles are spot welded, and i have rubber gasket to seal the lid. holds a perfect vacuum!

hello… i have to do a resin trap for my final year project. how can i design a resin trap using this pressure cooker. need ur help… pls. thank you.

There is not much to design: look at the picture and copy.

A handy hint for those who infuse small parts. Get down to your local fish and chip shop and see if they have any empty large pickled egg or onion jars. I get them free from my local shop. Mix your resin up in the jar, drill a hole in the lid and tacky tape it closed stick your vac tube in the hole and seal with tacky tape. turn pump on and watch resin degass. Push your vac tube down into resin when ready to infuse.

Only cost is about half a meter of tacky tape. Throw jar away or wash out with acetone to reuse.

That’s a pretty good idea. To add to that…

If you can’t get a hold of multiple mason jars to do this, then grab some mixing cups, insert them into the jar, then mix your resin. That will keep the jar clean :).
