My first project. Give me feedback and help.

Here I go. I am jumping right in to learn this composite stuff. Been reading and still reading, but wanted to make a thread about my project.

I am going to be doing a tunnel. Kinda like a big shovel. I do not think I am going to do the running boards just yet.

Going to replace this.

Sith something like:

Plan on making the plug over the next few days. Taking this alum tunnel off, remove all rivits and use auto bondo to smooth her all out. Going to be a ton of work…

Check this thread out - http://www.compositescentral.com/showthread.php?t=6128&highlight=fr4

Yea, I have actually read that. That is mostly talking about the bulkhead forward (front part where the engine is) and not the tunnel. This project will be much simpler. I am only doing the tunnel. A whole chassis would be a ton of work. I may not even do the running boards.

I will be mainly replacing a .080 aluminum sheet that is bent six times times.

Well, I removed the tunnel to use as a plug and decided it would be easier to make a plug. The current tunnel would need a decent amount of mods and work. I went ahead and created a plug out of foam and smoothed over the joints with 3m body filler. I need to sand it tomorrow and going to coat is with resin tomorrow or the next day.

ordered wax, pva and orange tooling gel and that should be here thursday. Already have fiberglass.

I am thinking more and more to do the running boards. Just wonder what strenght I can get with big holes in them. thoughts?

I am also wondering if I should use a core or if i can just layup some crabon fiber.

Without some sort of core it will be either heavy, or floppy.
