My first infusion

It didn´t go so well  I was using per and 3 layers fiberglass. It infused quite slow and didn´t fully saturate. What did I do wrong?

Riki, it looks like your using stretchalon as a bagging film which on infusions is not really helping you as it sucks down into the flow media, this doesnt help with the flow. Id say the first part of the infusion went fairly fast which trapped air in the little depression then the large raised dry area probably trapped air because the resin flowed round it following the path of least resistance due to the flow media and reached the vac port making it difficult to vac all the air out. Try using a non stretch bagging film and to be honest there should be no need to cover the whole part with flow media but maybe a strip down the middle and definately over the raised section. The flange could have been larger on the vac port side as it is a little close to the edge of the part.

So to recap different bagging film, a strip of flow media down the middle probably as wide as the raised section, try to clamp off the resin flow before it reaches the vac port say 75% of the part infused and try and keep the vac port as far away from the part as possible. Looking again it appears that the resin in tee could do with some flow media over it or better still dispense with the tee and cut little slots in the tube fold it back on itself with a little of the yellow tape to hold it and the wrap a little peel ply around it, this will help also with the resin flow out.

Also, was the PER made for VIP? It needs to have a low visocity rating.

Plus cut back on the MEKP (you can use quartz lights to finish the cure after B staging too) to get more work time to allow the resin to flow all the way too…

It was normal PER, not for VIP. And yes, I´m using stretchlon. I´ll have to try again when I have time and different bagging material.
Thanks for the help!

great first effort though  its good to see someone using glass instead of wasting carbon when they are learning, best of luck with the second attempt.
