yep input is good. don’t use polyester resin for an overlay. Buy a one gallon kit of clear epoxy. epoxy makes a better glue than polyester resin does.
and for one quart of polyester gel coat you only need like 1/3rd of one ounce of MEKP… so a tiny tube from HomeDepot would do the trick. But don’t use polyester resin or mekp if you have not already bought them.
You also need:
cheap paint brushes.
quart of acetone.
half gallon to one gallon kit of clear epoxy ( www.jgreer.com, #300resin with #21 hardener) works great for overlays and is a good inexpensive epoxy that has some UV protective added to it.
You also need one quart of 2K clear automotive clear coat with activator, and an air compressor and half way decent HVLP or LVLP spray gun. Read up on www.southernpolyurethanes.com forums for how to prep the overlay for clear coat and how to shoot the clear coat and adjust the gun properly prior to clearing the roof. If you adjust the gun wrong bad results will happen. Rattle cans are not for cars. Or you can pay a bodyshop to clearcoat it for you… probably cost around $150 or so. If not clearcoated with 2K clear coat you will encounter all kinds of ugly problems after just a day in the sun. Also do not overlay in the sun. It will yellow or brown the resin and make it kick off too fast.
so back to supplies:
cheap brushes,
latex or nitrile gloves,
resin kit,
mixing sticks,
graduated mixing container/s. no guessing on mixing.
a rubber squeegie,
a box of saran wrap You put this over the carbon fiber and then use your squeegie to lightly work out any excess resin and it also spreads the resin into the weave.
I’m sure some others here will have advice or remember something i forgot.
