Mould repair?

Yes it’s me again  I’ve searched this forum, bud couldn’t really find what I needed…

So, one step further in making my carbonfibre motorcycle fairings.

After some difficulties on releasing the mould, I now have a 99% good part… Got the proces of getting the mould of the object in good order now, and that part goes well.
This part misses a piece of gelcoat… I could get started back from the beginning again, but is there also a way of repairing this little piece, and how?

for things like that, i use a poly. bondo. its an off white color. comes in a white and pink looking tube. with a white hardner. works well and polishs high. when i get 2 the shop ill look

Is that something like polyester resin or so? Can I fill it up with resin, and grind it all smooth?

You might be better off repairing with marine grade epoxy filler, as this will stick better than poly, and there will be less chance of the repair failing.

I agree with classic. Id get a good epoxy…hell a 5 minute epoxy is fine…fill the holes and sand smooth and redo the airbubbles in that and blah blah blah.

Dont get crazy with it so you dont warp that part of the mold.

After that…you just wax the shit out of it and you should be fine.

Most of your parts will need auto clearcoat anyways so if it has minor defects VISUALY no biggie.

thats one thick ass mold for a couple one offs…way to go mang.

after the mould is fixed, should I paint the whole thing before using it?

Drill a hole so any filler will rivet itself to the mold…ok, mould (:D)

As long as you sand it smooth, you don’t need to recoat to whole mold, unless you want to with much more work…
