On my plug, should I allow gel-coat to dry totally before fiberglass lay up? Or get right after it? Thanks GE
Let it get tacky, then lay some light fg veil in first to build strength throughout your laminate. Then build your FG/matrix on top of that.
There’s a point called “tack free” which is just the moment. If you touch the gel coat, it doesn’t get stuck into your skin, but your fingerprint still gets marked on the surface.
Are we talking polyester or epoxy?
Mould will be polyester.
OK, gelcoat never gets completely hard. It will stay tacky for a long time. Leave the gelcoat to cure for at least 2 hours before proceeding.
If you encounter elephant skin, your gelcoat is undercured, take measures to get a better cure (higher temp, more peroxide, thicker layer, more even layer)
