more rc heli stuff

thanks to the this forum for all your help. parts that i designed and made are the landing gear via an aluminum tool and pressure molding, the main frame which was machined from flat carbon stock, the canopy which used the wood mold and vacuum bagging, and many of the aluminum parts.

Nice work Blade. I used to love watching the RC chopper pilots learning to fly. I flew fixed wing RC. My instructor said an accomplished RC chopper pilot was a guy who could take one up, hover it and then put it down again “IN ONE PIECE”! :stuck_out_tongue:

Check this beauty out. It was donated to us (Cdn Coast Guard) by the builder who flew it for a few years before retiring it.

The builder is

The detail is amazing! Other than the radio gear being removed it’s complete. I’d estimate this would be a $5K or more model of a MBB-105’s we have in our fleet.

We just sold two of these which were mid 1980’s models for more than we paid for them! I’ve flown on them a few times and they’re good choppers, sporty!

Blade, I like what you did with that mold. Nice work!

daaaaaamn. NICE! Did you ever figure out how to make the blades well?

very cool, good job!

good looking heli what kind? i have two electrics. good stuff keep em coming:D

thanks for the support and compliments guys.
KnottyBuoyz, i can truly appreciate the effort that go’s into the scale stuff. that thing is sweet.
JRL, i was originally going to try to use pressure from a flexable bladder to push the layup against the mold surface but realized i might not get good results and decided to bag. so the aluminum plate was an after thought.
riff42,i have a couple different process i hav’nt fully exploited yet. i have been prototyping different designs by machining cores then overlaying, then infusing to try to find the best performance. i think im close
20_rc51_00, thank you
Kaneda, it is based off of a trex 450 but all thats left of the trex is the boom and fly bar. this runs on 6s and was the main reason for doing the canopy (to fit the bigger packs). i also have a JR Parkmite and a Miniature Aircraft Razor.all electrics too. pics of the my carbon canopy for the Razor are also posted in this forum

What did you use to finish the wood? Polished urethane?

Minwax stain/sealer and their urethane spray bomb. it is holding on to the wood real well although i probably would not try ommiting the PVA

Nice job Busted:) Makes me want a rc heli more and more. I was even thinking of it yesterday. Although I’d just buy the cheap one to learn on:o

do it man. composites and rc helis are kinda the same in the sense that both are challenging and rewarding. so most likely you will find satisfaction within
