went to make some molds up today using the same tecniques and materials i have used many times before but it seems i have had some kind of reaction…not sure what though??part was waxed 5 times and pva’d twice, and 2%mekp for the tooling resin. the red and blue is where i rubbed thru 2 different coats of old paint.
had to of been some kiind of reaction, I don’t use PVA so I can’t help you there. I use the conventional wax and have never had a problem
Too thin first tooling gel coat?
it started doing it pretty much immediately, how on earth am i going to get it off
just put a layer of glass then pop it amd start over
I never cared much for pva unless u want a quick rough mold I do know that if u had wax then pva it could be the pva releasing from wax I alway spray production gell on the plug sand and buff wax 8-12 coats then spray tooling
well i put some tissue on it and it pretty much all cracked off.all the green/blue paint has basically melted causing this reaction so i have sanded it all off now ready to go AGAIN
will it be safe to use an auto clearkote(acrylic based) on the plug before molding???
god i just love having to do the job twice
i would use gell coat it wont wrinkle when you spray tooling
i dont have kit for spraying gelcoat
,i wish i did,it would make things a lot easier…
well i have just finished removing all the resin with the help of a litre of acetone lol,i seriously dont want to be doing that again
all the green paint has basically washed off with acetone and the red paint underneath seems unaffected by acetone so im guessin this will stand up ok to molding with wax etc,i really hope so.
duratec surfacing primer does wonders for resurfacing molds.
I had a similar problem occur… I think it’s a reaction between the resin and the clear coat… I also waxed and pva’d… so who knows
i dont get it i have tried waxing and then pva the pva has always released on me what could i be doing diferent?
when you say you dont have a kit do you mean a paint gun?
no compressor or gun, this is the first part in maybe 15 that has done this,it was obviously the green paint that caused it,any ideas what type of paint this would have been to reacte so badly?
