molding front end of car.

im wanting to make a one piece front end for my intgera. it has a jdm front end now and i would like to keep that look. the car is going to be a drag car. im trying to figure out a way to mold the headlights shape but i do not want to damage the lights in the process. is there a way i can lay fiberglass over them without hurting them?

Is this your first composites project? if yes, then no.

Why not just buy one of the pre-existing parts out there, It will cost more for the supplies and equipment than it would to just buy one already made.

I have done this and when I get the time I’ll be adding the step by step photos on my PPV section, when I can get the time.

But like the other posting…it is not cheap and it is much faster and easier to just buy one!

this is not my first time, im not a pro but im not useless ether. also i have not seen a one piece front end of a jdm integra so buying is not a option, so im goint to make one. the only part im unsure about is the making the headlights. they are expensive and i do not wish to damage them. if i was to cover them with masking tape would that protect them? or perhaps there is something else that would be recommended?

Well, I had a full composites classroom of students that really wanted to work (many years ago…) hard & learn and it still took almost a year to make the plug, mold and first part!

You wil also want to extend the back part over the door or how are planning to work that out?

Also, plan on flaring out the wheels wells for the slicks too…

Why repoduce the headlight inset? Flush them out for better air flow…since it is a drag car.

You can use masking or duct tape, or even plaster of paris if you let it fully dry and seal it too.

US Gypsum has a special material (tan in color…) that is like plaster of paris, that I saw a demo at Cerritos Composites classroom and they pulled a plug mold off a part of a bran new car front end in less than an hour or so…
