Mold Repair

I made this mold using tooling gel coat and csm. When removing the plug from the mold some gel coat chipped out in a few small places. This photo is of after i used a ball burr tool with a Dremel to rough up the chipped out areas, then poured a little tooling gel coat into the damaged areas.

What is the best way to level down the now cured gel coat repair? I will need them very smooth so I will end up with a very nice and useable mold after. Thanks

The clay inside the mold was used to form a dam to keep gel coat from going where not wanted.

sand it down…

you can carefully work it with a dremel or what have you. Best bet is just to start with about a 220grit paper and work it up to a polish.

Thanks, that is what i’ll do.

When I have to do something like this, I drill a 1/8" hole all the way thru so the gel coat will be riveted / locked on to the mold.
