Mold repair

Whats the best thing to repair a chipped gelcoat surface on a mold, more gelcoat or some body filler. I also have a small area I may need to alter by building it out a little.

If it’s a mold done in tooling gel, pending on size of the area use tooling or Akemi. If a gel coat surface use gel. Either way, Dremel out the area so it’s a clean surface and the repair will bond better.

If it's a low production, low heat mold, you can use Duraglass to build up the area you need. Recoat with gel, sand, buff and wax.

And you might want to drill a 1/8" hole threw the mold and press the tooling gel coat in to the hole untill it is coming out the back side. Helps to rivet it into place.

Thanks guys.

Bear in mind that gel coat is quite brittle and liable to cracking/chipping (tooling gel coat especially so), so if its a small area needing repair, it might be worth loking at epoxy rather than poly gel coat.
