Mold release waxes

Hey guys. Seems like I’m always posting because I’m in a bind but hopefully you guys can still find it within yourselves to help with some advice.

I lost my dolphin wax jar. I can’t find it and looked everywhere. I bought it from h and m racing in Canada and I am going to order more since it’s the best stuff I’ve ever used.

However I have a mold I’m needing to start asap. The flanging is done and it’s on a very fragile/part that’s not mine so I can not have things sticking.

I used frekote nc770 like always but want the wax as extra reassurance, especially since I’ll be spraying tooling gel coat. I would use pva but I hate the stuff and my parts usually release to early when I’ve used pva in the past.

Does anyone know if wax that I can pick up locally or something that would work? The issue I’ve run into in the past are some waxes have something inside that makes whatever you spray bead up and or run!

I use TR 108 over frekote, and with PVA.

The wax is from a USA manufacturer but I can’t find anyone that sells it there??

Any silicone free release wax should do. It’s the silicone that makes things messy.

That said, Frekote on its own should be enough to give a release. Depends on whether your gelcoat resists separation or if it’ll make a mess.

To be honest though, PVA has its downsides but it is undoubtedly the most reliable release system. If it’s applied correctly, you will never ever get a stick. I don’t like making moulds from things that can’t get damaged, as it can be a damaging process, but if I need to then I use PVA. It’s the only system that is reliable enough to completely guarantee a successful release.

I’ve been calling all morning trying to find tr108. The only thing I can find is tr104 and I know that causes fish eye issues.

I’ll keep searching. I also think the place I bought dolphin wax up in Canada is no longer in business or I can’t find the website anymore.

hint hint hint

Arg! I knew I forgot somewhere! I haven’t been on avt’s site for awhile.
