okay, so im starting these rear view mirror molds for a custom bike that im going to be laying carbon in, ive made several molds and know how to get it smooth as glass and carbon ready. but several problems ive ran into while laying clear is the tack. is there a way to get the clear to not take? i heared several things such as taking acetone and wiping it down with a damp rag, but how do i know i dont have any strands left over from the rag? than the spray glue trick, but im trying to get away from tack. is there a right way to lay the clear down and take the tack away?
Are you saying the mould is still tacky after you have laid up the mould and taken the part out?? Or is the part out of the mould still tacky. Bit confused… can you post photos and explain again??
no, before you lay up, after the clear coat fires off. we use to work with a guy that would wipe it down with acetone so the carbon slides instead of creating pulls in the clear. we use to wet the clear with the vynlester than lay the carbon down with playing cards and lay the glass over. worked okay but still pulled the clear sometimes.
OK… Acetone will make polyester/Vinylester gel coat sticky. If you want some slide then let it go off a little more and just lay up as normal…Or you could lay it into the gelled mould and wipe with a little acetone to hold the carbon in place before adding resin.
