Micarta

A friend of mine approached me with an interesting idea. He’s making a knife and he wanted to make micarta handles. He found some colors he liked at a Goodwill and cut up the shirts into random sized pieces. I wet out the fabric, put it in a C channel and compressed it with some wood and c clamps. After some slicing and polishing this is what he got!

Wow so that’s how you can get that look. They look good I bet even better on the knife!

NICE!!!
I like it

what are micarta handles?

Micarta is the composite I made above, in this case Goodwill shirts and some crystal clear casting resin. A friend of mine is using this material to make handles for a knife he’s making!
