Does anyone have any experience with MGS’ 285 laminating resin system? I’m looking for something ridiculously strong (for infusion) and this seems to be the best bet.
Thanks
Jim

Never used it. MGS ssems to be popular with RC model builders. Some good infusion resins are only sold via distributors and in fairly large containers (eg, 5 gal buckets). Jeffco, Epoxical, Pro-Set, are some of the names I’ve researched. The strength properties all seem to be in the same ballpark when comparing resin systems for laminating.
To get the maximum strength properties out of a resin system you almost always have to perform an elevated post cure. Be sure to take that into account when you setup your process. It may require you to use high temperature resistant materials to make a mold.
Thanks Bob – yeah, I’m going to do a post cure, so that’s not an issue. Viscosity is, so I want something below 500 cps. And strength is also an issue.
I narrowed the list pretty much down to the same ones you posted. MGS and ProSet seem to win out on strength and MGS is slightly cheaper so it’s going to get the initial nod for testing. But it’s still expensive so I thought I’d check first to see if anyone has any experience with it.
Sorry can’t help you here since I’ve never used the mentioned resin. They’re all good manufacturers so I don’t think you’ll go wrong either way. The only thing left is your requirement.
