meet the "boroclave"

earlier we had “forged” composites. Now we have “hydroformed” composites.

under the machines section

“This innovative technology combines the power of multi-thousand ton match metal compression molding and the complex shapes and vacuum capability of an autoclave or vacuum bagging”

" this press is specifically designed to apply omni directional pressure to a dome shaped composite. This boroclave provides double-sided oil heat on the composite and can heat past 500 degrees F under vacuum"

“The large Boroclave is designed to form composites specifically for the vehicle and aircraft markets, able to create large complex shapes and form a variety of materials into a single composite”

I’m confused. So…it’s…a…hotpress for a vacuum bag? been there, done that.

The press uses a one sided metal tool. With a liquid pressureized up to a few thousand psi to compress. The pressure acts normal to the mold face providing equal compaction in all directions, not just one like with traditional presses. It also means it can do undercuts if the tool can be split.

It’s like Quickstep or an autoclave with oil instead of a gas. Oil would allow for greater pressures safely and would stop exotherming. I like the idea of a liquid.

noooo, someone stole my idea… err… maybe not stole, but made it happen before I could.
