Matched tooling Question

Does anyone know what types of materials I could have matched tooling made from; for a platen press. the Company I used to work for had alot of nickel plated steel tools and I am curious if metal was the only option.

It is one of the best options around for press use.
Aluminum (depending on temp and pressure), and regular steel. Invar might be an option, but I don’t know much ABOUT Invar for anything besides normal open molds.

Some people try fiberglass/carbon mold halves for RTM Lite, which is like VARTM, but in a thin, closed mold system. Again, depends on your temps and pressures.

That’s what I had thought, but figured I would ask. I was hoping somebody might know of a lower cost alternative.

Thanks for the reply
