'Masking' Tape?

Any suggestions for a tape that is impervious to Gel Coat?

I need to mask off some areas on a plug that will be used for making molds and tape would be ideal for that purpose. I have read that Packing/Packaging tape will work with epoxy, but need something that is impervious to Gel Coat. Any suggestions?

I was having problems with releasing sheet wax from polyester gel coat so covered it in everyday packing tape. Did the job and pulled straight off.

r0bsk1, thanks for the tip. I’ll do some practice work with the packing tape and see how it works.

I use aluminum foil tape like used on duct work. You can get a very smooth surface and have no problem with thing sticking to it.

RogueSe7ens, thanks for sharing that tip. I like the idea of the packing tape, but at some point will try the aluminum tape too just to see how it works.
