Marking serializing composites

Is there a certain paper or sticker material that can be written on and then laminated into the expoxy?

I’ve seen some red and yellow id tags or serial numbers that were part of the fisished product.

Just curious if there was something everyone used or everyone uses their own method.

Back when making surf and sail boards we had decals printed on (what they used to call rice paper). That would become clear and only show the logo.

I just need a thin paper that I can write on and laminate in.

I say try rice paper again. CF or FB? If CF, try silver paint pens on the paper. The paint SHOULD stay on the paper and be visible against the black carbon. However, the resin might be a solvent and make it bleed. Test of course.
If you look for holographic security sheets, that might work. Normally hotpressed on the product, but might work under the resin (OR, it might fill in the holograph texture and not work…)
Hot Foil stamping should work as well. I’ve seen FB plates that seemed to have a foil S/N on them…I wanted to say it was the metallic paint pens…but it seemed raised, and would not wash off with acetone!

Just have aluminum plates machined, printed, or etched and bond them onto the finished parts. Paper labels look very tacky!

what thickness would you suggest?

I think I just saw a panel in my office that was just printed on paper. You can see the contrast between the ink and the CF, but the paper wets out to a shady effect.

I say try it all

Gades: If integrated into the laminate, thin like 1-5mils. If bonded to the outside, 10-30mil…ish.
