Mandatory Introduction post

I’ve noticed that some other forums require users to post an introduction message before they’re allowed to view threads or post. I think it’s good to get users familiar with posting and maybe make them more comfortable after they do so but this hinges on another problem.

Should unregistered users be allowed to view the forums or should we make it all private until a user registers?

A lot of people come onto the site to look around and get some quick info. Hiding the forums is counterproductive, as it doesn’t show people the good stuff and give them a reason to register.

Then a forced user introduction would be counter productive. I was thinking along the same lines but I wasn’t sure. Thanks for the input.
