I have a panel i am using as a male mold. It is release coated and all and I will be using an envelope style vacuum bag. The method is wet lay up. What should i put between the wet carbon fiber and the actual vacuum bag… a piece of soft flexible vacuum bag? Would that be ok; and with no peel ply or release ply.

You’ll need perforated release film and breather. Be careful not to place the valve where resin will get sucked into it. Good to see you’ve seen the light and doing some real wet lay-up laminating! (only kidding)
normally peel pley, release film that is perforated, breather, then bag. or you can use peel ply, bleeder, release film, breather, then bag.
if you want a shiny surface , just the perforated release bag. i would say you have to use breather since its a wet layup and not infusion… you are surely gonna have extra resin , and it has to have somewhere to go , otherwise it will pool where the bag makes it’s creases etc, leaving a bad result. (i learned the hard way :rolleyes: )
Fast: In addition to the two methods Riff said. You can also use a squeegee on the exterior of the bag (while vacuum is applied) to squeegee excess resin off to the side of the layup.
thanks guys, I forgot about the laminate having excess resin. Now I see why a perforated release ply is good.
I’ll have to squeegy this first one because i don’t have release ply here. I’ll order some soon.
That would be because of the lack of a breather/bleeder layer. Without it you get very uneven pressure, accross the entire layup. Im guessing your vacuum guage was reading full, but chances are the lamenant was seeing 3 to 5 inches off mercury max.
Haven’t done the lay up yet. I was just meaning to say I don’t have a composite supply company in Phoenix to buy some release ply from.
What if i poke a zillion needle size holes into some bag film and use that as a release ply? I will definately use breather fabric.
