Well after little over 5 years at my current position as GM for a composites company I decided I am ready for a change. I just accepted a position as project manager for a wind blade mold company in China. I am very excited for this new opportunity and I think will help grow my career much further! This is will my second time working in China, last time was for a year back in 2004 as a consultant for a rowing shell company. It was an amazing experience then and I am hoping that this one will be as well. This new position will require lots of traveling to the US, UK and other countries which is also very exciting! And of course asian girls are another good perk! I will continue to lurk and put my input in on this forum. Wish me luck!
Congrats on the job!!! You should celebrate with some Sake!!!
Good Luck!
well sake is japanese. China has a rice alcohol called moui Tai that is horrible! sake isnt that bad. If any think I need to start practice taking shots of beer!
Hahahahaha…I can’t believe I did that, shows how uncultured I am Oh well, it’s still booze and close enough
hahaha… No worries, it actually happens all the time. People always ask me if I eat a lot of sushi there… As far as the booze, not sure. If its like the last place it forced on to you. Gombays constantly. They like trying to take foreignors out!
Better start practicing!! Build up your immunity and tolerance Nevertheless, seriously congrats, sounds like a great opportunity, how did your present employer take the loss of having you go…not easy to fill a GM position.
Hes not too happy, but umnderstands. He gave me a counter offer that was amazing, actually much higher than this offer, but I am looking at the bigger picture. I really feel that this is the best choice long term, and think will much more exciting and adventurist
Wow Howard that is awesome man !! Big congrats and kudos for having the stones to make the move !!
I hope you keep in touch ! Post lots of pix of the journey please !
Cheers, Vinny
Thanks Vinny! I def will, I still have your personal email. How have you been? Your roof project coming along?
It’s good he made a counter offer, always nice to feel wanted…I would do the same as you, in composites it’s so easy to fall into the “don’t change it” method of production when everything is working, so learning a new process or totally different application isn’t always easily come by unless a big change is made…kinda like this.
Plus it is more exotic.
Yea, I agree. I wouldnt of changed my position unless it was a big change. It was very difficult for me to make my decision because I have such a comfy job, and with the counter offer it would of been amazing. I like my current boss too, I have a high respect for his intelligence and skill. I want my life to be fun and enjoy every minute. I am ready for a big change and am hoping for the best!
Doing well thanks. Roofs are moving along…re-started a performance hood project to take care of some old business on a group buy. Looking forward to getting back onto the roofs.Gotta pay the rent first though, lol.
Whomever is getting your old job is dancing a jig in this economy !! You gotta’ know !lol.
We’ll chat about those overseas girls on PM,lol.
Congrats! Hojo.
haha, certainly will Vinny!
Good luck Hojo!! This is soo cool. I’m gonna ask you a ton of questions about business in China in the near future. I hope you don’t mind. Be sure to stay active here!!
Thanks Canyon! feel free to ask me questions anytime! I will def stay active here, just might be a bit timpsy from all the gombays! haha
Congrats Hojo, keep climbing that ladder! I sure hope you still visit the forum cause you have been a HUGE help to me with the knowledge you have shared and have served as lots of inspiration.
Will you be at the Composites Europe in Shanghai fro6-8 June? If yes we can meet each other. The wind energy sector is a very interesting one, we should talk together.
Thanks Rotorage! I certaintly will continue to participate in this forum as much as I can!
