Wondering if anyone can offer any advice on selecting an infusion epoxy resin. I am looking for a room temp cure epoxy resin that has a viscosity of around 600cps or less. The part I am infusing is a goalie mask so I am looking for stiffness and impact strength.
In the past Ive used US Composites 635 epoxy, west systems epoxy, and I currently you MAS Epoxies Infures (200cps) but Im looking to see if there is anything else I can try.
What are the factors you do not like about the current epoxy? More stiffness means less impact resistance, in general.
You could also achieve more part stiffness with different part geometry or a different fiber
Im actually perfectly satisfied with the MAS epoxy that I currently use.
It is had very low viscosity, infuses well, and the hardener system actually lets me either add or use less hardener to adjust the cure time.
Im always looking for ways to make my mask lighter/stronger so Im just trying to see if there is a resin out there that I should try out.
Canyon, Ive done a pretty good amount of tweaking geometry etc (more ridges, sharp corners) to get the stiffness of the part up. My laminate is a combination of multiple layers of Fiberglass (16oz), 8HS Kevlar, 12K and 3K carbon. My current shell is infused and comes in at a final weight of just about 650 grams after trimming. Im just tinkering to see if there is a way to increase the stiffness of the shell without adding more weight. Other than for the resin, Im looking to possibly experiment with some Innegra, but I think someone else posted that they kept having delaminating issues no matter what resin they used.
