Hello all,
Just started making composite parts for cars. Most of my parts have a mostly cosmetic function so materials don’t need to be particularly strong or light. I prefer epoxy resin as I hate the smell of polyester and I’m more used to working with epxy resins. I’ve seen some interesting fabrics with colors in the weave, but they seem to be all carbon fiber. Any glass cloth available in colors? I would also like to work with the colored CF, but I am only doing wet lay up vac bagging right now. What would be the easiest type of CF to use in such a process as a cosmetic layer?
Check out Soller Composites for different colors.
Wow, thanks, they have everything I was looking for and they are right next door! Now I feel like I can screw up my first attempts and it will be a good thing because I can get crazier fabric! As long as I learn from the mistakes:)
If you work by hand lay up and vacuum bagging, you will achieve the best results on the surface using as first layer tight weave carbon fiber fabrics, like 3k 240g/m2 o 3k 285 g/m2, 3k 300g/m2 twill 2/2 or 4Hs, 5Hs weave, and thin epoxy resin with a pot life that allows you to lay up all the layers and vacuum bag all before the resin starts to gelify, example: if you take 60 minutes to lay up all the layers and vacuum bag the molds, you must use a resin with a pot life of 70-90 minutes, because voids and pinholes on the surface are ever positioned on the space between fibers and these fabrics are so tight that air could be removed by vacuum but the resin must not be totally gelled so it tends to remain attached to the fibers but allow the air to go out, a first layer of gelified resin or gelcoat on the mold could be useful also.
Try New Bright carbon fiber products Co.,Ltd, can supply you colorful fiberglass fabric.
Didn’t see any colored fabrics on your website or a US distributor.
