Leybold D16BTrivac opinions

Leybold D16BTrivac

Has anyone used one? What’s it worth used? Good for infusion? Small projects, for starter pump? What would be the most you’d pay for one?

Thanks for any assistance/advice you can provide.

Good pump, if it is still working. These pumps usually suffer more from standing still (condensation) then from working.

Once in need of repair or overhaul, it is best to toss the pump. DIY overhaul sets are 1500+ USD.

really…well now I’m mad at my self. It’s already gone, went for less than $200…I missed out on a good deal then.

If it went for these prices, expect a refurb in the near future. Problem is you do not know the history.

Hi,

I work with this pump and pretty happy with it, run sometimes 6 or 7 hours/day with vaccum regulation, on/off switch with good reliability, just take care to quality and oil level as same for most of pump.

I should said I’ve make the bargain of the 100 following years…50€/around 70$ brand new, the guy who sale it was thinking it’s a hydraulic pump!!

In your experience is this true of any rotary vane pumps, be it Busch, Edwards, or Leybold? Or are the Leybold Trivacs more prone to this problem? I was hoping to find something that has greater than 4cfm and can consistently hit 29". I am leery about dealing with oil, but it looks like diaphragm pumps wont do >4cfm, rocking pistons wont hit 29", and rotary vanes are all oil. Scroll pumps seem perfect except they cost a small fortune.

Storing in a humid environment kills all pumps. But Leybold keeps the record for overpricing refurb kits.

When buying a pump have it demonstrated, it should run nicely, and the oil should look clear. After buying, replace the oil with the recommended stuff. If the pump smokes, replace the exhaust filters. Keep in mind that when removing them, also make sure you remove the seals / o-rings that keep the filter in place. New rings are usually supplied with a new filter.

For the rest it should all be OK.
