Leak detector

Ultrasonic air leak detector which one are you using and work ?

Nobody use them? I have to buy one and I would like to buy something that really works.

Somewhere along the lines I was reading something where instead of buying something for hundreds of dollars they use some type of doctors tool. Maybe one of the things that you can hear hearts beats with. I forget exactly what it was though.

Only works if you press the disc against the tape. No use on larger projects.

I’m using the Ultrasonic sealey detector which is pretty good for ordinary leaks…but I’m having a hard time for very very small leaks because the detector will find the small leak only if it’s exactly above the hole. Any way to boost it a bit?

The vactrak that I tested can be used to pinpoint to the leak pretty efficiently.

It does not detect the leak when 5 cm / 2" away? Is there a way to boost sensitivity?

It’s on full sensitivity and still can’t find the very very small leaks.

I have the same problem

My experience is that with the Vactrak I can pinpoint to a spot about 3/8", where the leak should be. With the WRD-33 from Airtech I can pinpoint to about 1mm, or 3/64" or so.

I have no data on how small a leak you can find with the units. Very difficult to test.

This works better without the disc. You can put a little funnel and it works better. The first I used was the upper part of a coca cola bottle with a tube up to my ear

I found a used wrd-33 on Ebay for 2000$.
I wonder what could be the cost for a new one…

mail to airtech…

I can ask for a quote on monday.

if we could use a parabolic plate on the end of the detector would it help in any way to get a direction of the leak so we could reduce the surface we have to search?

Thank you very much!

I can supply you with a NEW Sontector WRD-33 for around 1000 euro including shipping…

Good to know, thanks.
Let me think about it for a while.

Keep in mind that I can supply a VacTrac for less than half that price…

On your opinion, is the more expensive worth the extra price?

Everyone has to decide for himself. It is more specific, (pinpoints to 1mm instead of an area of 10mm) but if that is really needed? The unit does feel more sturdy than the Vactrak, which is a bit flimsy.
