Laying up the item after you have the mold

Well after experimenting a bit I finally got a mold which is in great condition with no damage at all made during the removal process.

Anyways Im ready to lay my item not but was just wondering how exactly I should do it. Below I have included a picture to help explain my problem more clearly.

What I want to ask is should I lay the new fibreglass which goes on the mold so that it is LARGER than the mold (the shaded part is the new fibreglass to be laid) pic 1 or should I layer it SMALLER than the mold? Obviously when I made my mold I made some flanges so either method would still result with an item which is the same as the original after some trimming.

I tried laying it smaller than the mold but had a really hard time removing it because there was no real “edge” for me to stick the plastic wedges under since the fibreglass were just teared randomly and stuck on.

yes, you basically answered your own question, overlap the fibreglass and trim off when still green or after removal. you`ll find removal much easier also.

You can also try laying the part oversized, with plastic pieces or thick tape on the mold surface, so you can pry it up, and stick wedges under that!
