Latest infusion

Popped it out of the mold today (infused yesterday) and I was very pleased with the outcome! I gave it a quick wash and took pics before it even dried, I was too eager!

Not one sign of bridging or bubble or voids, very happy!

It’s a gsxr tank cover. I used 3 layers of 5.7 oz. and the jgreer 300/21 resin (by far the best resin I have used to infuse, even better then the adtech stuff I paid a fortune for…)

very nice matey. cant wait to try infusion…wat twill is that you used?

it’s 2x2 5.7oz 3k

just had a look at the resin your using! excellent price on that. We get pretty screwed over here, I pay the equivalent of about $225 delivered for a gallon infusion epoxy. Yikes…

it’s a very good handling epoxy, it doesn’t seem to gel until it actually starts to gel if you know what I mean. The viscosity remains very unifrom for most of it’s life. I tad on the thicker side, but with a little bit of heat it thins right out. It does seem to take a while for it to fully cure though…

How is it in UV any yellowing?

I’m not sure, I haven’t had the opportunity to test that, but the guys says that it has decent stability, but I clear coat anyways…

Very nice airbox/tank cover:cool: did you make the visible top layer one single piece of carbon fiber? Any potential bridging problems. I have to make one of these for an R1 Sunday or Monday. I’m finishing up the mold today. you flanged yours exactly how i flanged mine lol Great minds think alike:D

guess what epoxy i’m using 20_RC51_00 ? lol

I did use a single layer of carbon for the first and the last layer and one layer in the middle using 3 diff pcs. I used to have bridgning issues, but I learned to really massage the stack into all the crevasses by frequently pulling and releaseing vacuum partially.

haha there is a similar quote, ā€œsimple minds think alikeā€ haha not sure which is true…

I like the greer, I wish he made a similar product that was just a bit thinner…

I infused another one a few hours ago, but before I did this one I buffed the mold with my aqua buff 2000 tha tfinally came in the mail. Can’t wait to see how it turns out, the mold looked like glass after the buffing!

Post up pics of the finished parts

here is a pic of both of them.

UPDATE

I cut one of them out today, lookin good! It was such a hassle to cut…

Very nice. I’m infusing one of those type of parts tomorrow… man i hope it comes out nice. I too wish Greer made an epoxy that was about 150cps more waterlike. How do you say that… more viscous or less viscous? Anyhow i have noticed in the colder climate i could use a different hardener or epoxy.

what type of mold did you make for that part? epoxy or PER ? How thick is your mold in millimeters?

Viscous means a resistance to flow, so less viscous is synonymous with more wattery.

The mold is PER mold that I made in the summer/fall when I could do it outside. Per deffinatelyt has it’s advantages if you can do it outdoors, I would add just a bit more catalyst and it would gel a bit sooner, good for handlayups. The mold is not too thick at all, maybe 5-8mm Id say, but it’s not that even everywhere, I did this when I was still pretty green at all of this, not that I’m some sort of expert now by anymeans…

Colder climate!? I thought both you and racedout were in texas?

I hope your infusion goes well, keep in touch on how it goes!

GOOD WORK MAN:cool:

I have a better and newer pic I took with the digital camera. This is of the completed cover. It has not been sprayed with clear coat, that is the shine right out of the mold!

Very nice looks GREAT!

Where are you getting your infusion resin from? Is it a Canadian supplier?

There’s a sticky up under ā€œproducts talkā€ of some Cdn suppliers we’ve found.
