Take a look at the picture below… The air looking things appearing on top of the fibers under gelcoat. Resin degassed, VE, all standard with the infusion and this happens suddenly. It is not present all over the part, only underneath the inlet spiral and around the edges in last 200mm approximately. It is not like the bubbles that normally happen when something goes wrong, it`s not a big void… Has anyone ever seen something like this???
May be your resin does not work with the facing of the fabric.
What does facing mean? I eliminated the fabric as the problem as other parts with same fabric and resin came out nice. I was then thinking it had to be something with the spray adhesive so i ran some tests on sample plate with areas covered in different amounts of spray adhesive but it showed no signs of failure until ridiculous amounts
This happened once and i cant replicate this mistake-failure and thats what bodders me… I like when i know what i`ve done wrong!
Wich failure do you mean? the small dots ore the unsaturated fabrics?
facing = sizing.
Check this document (attached)
I do not have an explanation. Looks like some sort of contamination.
The strange looking stuff, but i wouldn’t describe them as dots.
I’ve seen that when vacuum is lost … Particularly from a hole in the bag… Then air runs( but yours is less local and has no runs)… The only other is water contamination with pre preg… Which is totally off
I marked the areas
in the blue circle you can see fine dots, that could be spray adhesive.
in the red circle can be a problem with the sizing/facing of the carbon, maybe it is to old (normal not a problem with carbon) or you had problems with water/air humidity
or your resin starts to outgas, VE/PE is not the optimum for infusion.
Dots in blue circle are dust or something on part as i wet out the part to make a better photography and they appear in the dry part, never mind them.
The things in red are problem i am focusing on.
VE used was DION 9102 - that is made for infusion. It was degassed for 1h prior to addition of MEKP LPT and for 5 minutes after adding MEKP LPT.
The mold was in max vacuum that i can make for 1h prior to infusion - 97% per my gauge - resin boils at 95 ( for reference) and the infusion i did at 94%. No leaks at all.
Facing? - i made 5 bonnets from that same roll. Is it possible that facing is inconsistent?
