well just look at the pic. All you carbon guru’s from just looking at this, is it pre-preg?
I say no but… They claim that it is

I would say no too because its really hard to get prepreg to go it to small compound shapes, but who knows
exactly and the weave is toooooo distorted to be a preg fabric
Thats what I was thinking. But Ive never played with pre preg so I kept it to myself.
There is no way to tell. If they say it is, it is.
Prepreg is not a perfect material…it’s still fabric that twists, distorts and bunches.
It’s just sticky as hell.
You can cut tiny perfectly square pieces and put them where it’s needed. I triangle with a tiny point in one end.
I say it’s prepreg.
See above, but yeah, it is still a weaved fabric. You can’t lay perfectly straight lines unless you lay each one, one at a time.
prepreg distorts VERY well.
every preg I have used I can not make it distort even half as bad as that is even if I tried. But I guess there is all sorts of preg out there
you think thats bad…I see stuff that obviously looks like plastic with some sort of pattern or sticker and they say its real.
Then I get people asking why I cant match those prices. I say “Buy it and send it to me and if its real Ill match the price”
It also depends on whether its fresh or out of date semicured PP too…as far as how it becomes loose or tacky.
I can’t see why they brag PP if its not…no real reason too with that part.

I think the only way that this is prepreg is if they are using a press on them. The only time I have ever seen prepreg take complicated shapes in one pieice is with a press. You can heat prepreg up to loosen the weave but then it is too tacky and sticks to its self very easily
Double right angle bends. It can be thrown into tight spaces, and I have made it distort many times, especially when working in tight spaces, where you cut it, and still need it to bend it to conform, which as mentioned…is still a loose weave, and will wrinkle.
Just saying.
I want to slap people like that! “Carbon fiber brake lever”
I asked, he just said “well, that is what the box says”
arg.
I’ve been laminating preg for13 years and while I know it could be done. The time
it would take would make the part unsellable to the “Black Chrome” buyer.
Most likely it is homemade preg (wetting out fabric between plastic sheets). Technically still “Pre Preg” .
Cheers

hmmm yeah all these are good answers. It really doesnt bother me if it is or not I just saw it and thought to myself that can not be pre-preg and that is why I asked. Yes they sell several items do as well lol. I am sick of people asking why my fuel pump covers are not dry carbon like theirs. Its a cover… meaning if you want the weight reduction ummm take it out.
More resons why I only do manufacturing and wholesale to my business dealers…well, mostly except for eBay.
I have bought a CF gauge panel off eBay and most of the whole auction page stated Carbon Fiber (except for a little “carbon fiber look”).
