What do you guys think of this. Quality, process, purpose…?

Would you buy it?

I just found this and thought it was a bit funny

As many of you have already realized, we started shipping FlakJacket’s for the iPhone several weeks ago but soon discovered that design interfered with reception of the AT&T network. We did a complete redesign, and are now waiting for our new coating to be approved and delivered so that we can deliver to you our new design. We appreciate you patience and know that many of you have waited many weeks, and some months, for delivery. We promise it will be worth the wait.

from another carbon fiber iphone case maker.

the “carbon fiber” on that picture just looks like a sticker cover and not real carbon fiber.

I met a guy recently that told me how they do the process of fake carbon and fake wood products for stuff like this and car interior trim. he told me they start with sheet that has pva on it with the ink pattern, they float this sheet in water that is 93 degreez and the pva disintegrates and just the ink is left floating on the surface. they then proceed to dip the plastic part in to this bath with the ink floating on top surface, it instantly bonds to the plastic giving in the desired look.

That sounds liek a very neat process…too bad making true carbon isn’t that easy…

yeah its a well known process for making carbon-look products… the funny thing is, they sell it as a kit and costs several times as much as the same amount of materials used for carbon of the same area (of course you can’t buy skills or knowledge…)

i’d say results are ridiculous to say the least.

some companies sell a sticker that looks almost real carbon , you apply it with a heat gun… oh, well…

looks like someone is putting a little more effort into making it look more realistic (though still not there). all the faux cf ive seen previously really looked like crap. probably gonna have a hard time getting a thumbs up from the authentic fabric artists on this board though

1: It looks real. Fake CF wouldn’t change the gleam in the angles, depending on the lighting. It would look exactly the same in ever part of it, in every photo.
2: Um. CF is conductive. It’s used for electronic enclosures for EMI shielding. So…HOW does the radio signal get out of the phone, and how does it receive when the antenna is covered.

yeah, slight problem with cell phone covers made out of CF.

hee. Just saying.

indeed, I covered my phone with carbon, and it freeked out, I could send text messages, and even call, for about 7 seconds :stuck_out_tongue:
