Hi just a quick question, all set to go for infusion in the morning, this part is wing mirror, question is i have only used mesh in the part to edge,on the resin intake I have not used flow media only peel ply, same on pump side, not bothered about that as it serves as resin break,my main concern before I infuse in the morning is,will resin coming in flow enough,to saturate part where media flow is the spirals are about an inch from part on flange for give my spelling, children running wild.
You should have flow media over the whole part you are infusing.
I have been laying flow media only on part of the part to try and slow the resin flow. Maybe that is part of my problem.
What happens if you don’t have flow media on the whole part?
Why is it necessary?
Thanks!
If you don’t have the flow media over the whole part the airbubbles have to go through the fabric where they stay.
Always use flow media over the whole part if the geometrie allows. Sometimes you have to slow down perticular so that you can leave the flow media.
Great, it really helps having an explanation as to why things happen. I was having trouble with the speed of my resin flow, but I just purchased some smaller tubing which I think will fix that problem. I can’t wait to get the MTI hose!
I never worry about the flow of my resin, I only use VE infusion resin the viscosity(CPS) of 110, but I only use Red Flow media and always spray marine uv gel coat in the mold prior to infusion, and 90% of time no air bubbles, dry spots, or pin hoes at all.
I never have flow media over my entire part. If the part is thick, then the resin will flow over the surfce to the vent, and racetrack around toe bottom, and the air will get trapped under the part. Even parts less than 1/8" carbon WILL be dry!
We made laminates with 2" thickness in infusion. With flow media over the whole part. It is no problem if the flow media ends 2 x thickness before the part lip.
The mirrors are bit like bowls, with a sharp 90 degree angle,I have put flow media up to the 90 degree angle, just incase bridging in that area and cut a bit off media where it returns, but on from there to vaccum side into pump I have used only peel ply,as a resin break,on resin inlet side I now have used media under spirals,I have put media up to the part and partially around the curve of part.
