I have read in an old thread that you can actually infuse a part without the need to have a mould with flanges.
Let’s say we have a mould without any flanges at all, is it possible to infuse the part and how?
I suppose you should enclose the whole mould inside a closed vacuum bag, but isn’t the resin going to flow to the underside of the mould too?
yes, you can. not much resin will flow under the mold. Setup would be the same. You can also create flanges from bag flaps, however it can be a pain to seal.
In that case wha’t the infusion setup? For example where you place the spiral tube, silicon connectors etc?
Yeah, some resin will leak around the mold, mostly where the wrinkles are. Dependin on where your inlet/vent tubes are, you might get some bridging and excess resin at those areas, but not always much of a concern.
If you spray some adhesion spray to the back side of the mold and then adhere peel ply to it, then you won’t have to worry about resin leaking behind. Just peel the peel ply off and your back to normal.
well, by doing that you’re encouraging flow underneath by putting a fabric there. With no fabric the resin only flows threw creases in the bag film(if any). However I could see your point that it makes clean up after easier.
You will leave a peel ply texture surface on the back side of the mold then. Depending on the mold itself, maybe you can deal with it…each time will build up a layer of resin…in the end, each will leave resin. Peelply will actually allow resin flow. Slow, but it will flow.
I just semi-perm the backside of the mold when using envelope bags. Yes, the resin moves through the pleats and cures on the back, but it just falls right off when you agitate it.
Yeah, as long as your mold back is smooth and you release it…the resined bits should come off.
