Infusion with foam core

Hi all,

I’m looking to infuse the following layup from top to bottom:

FG
Foam
FG
Mold

Is there any way I can infuse the whole lot and still have a great finish on the top layer?

The shape im infusing isnt that complicated, but using a rigid mold isnt really a option.

Will those silicone reusable bags result in a better surface? And even if I used a reusable bag, id still need to use peel ply and flow materials right?

Is my only option a 3 step process? Each layer seperately the bond the whole lot together?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you use a deilles foam core it in no problem. You have to use a flow media and I would also reccomend peelply and perforated release film for infusion or compoflex as alternative.
Silcone bags will not work with epoxy. I do not like them.

that video may help you

The mold side is where you get the good finish, the flow media and other consumables is on the bag side with perforated core.
You need a mold side that will hold a vac ,no leaks. You can line this with basic plastic sheeting so no waxing is needed, watch out for printing on the plastic.

That is not helpful. The panels will not be perfekt. A film on both sides will never end in a smooth side. There is also no brake zone and the system does not look tight.

Im thinking about some kind of semi rigid plastic surface above the top layer of glass.

Should at least help to reduce finishing

If its not that big and not a lot of glass then u could just do a hand layup then instead of peel ply use a .030 thick sheet of mylar.this will make a nice flat shinny finish both sides.

One step further wrap some breather around, bag it and apply just a little vac. Can’t remember but acrylic mylar I think it is sticks to epoxy, pvc wont.I think.
