infusion project for new guy

Hello I am looking at infusioning a small boat hull and deck the mold is 2 pieces which are put together after with a shoe box flange. The mold (male) is made from closed cell insulation board that was sanded to shape. From there drywall mud was put on thin and sanded to get rid of voids and provide a smooth surface. Last a few coats of oil based kilz was sprayed over. The shoe box flange is extend beyond the 1" that is needed and cut after.

When it was hand laid up we just added plastic over all this and started. I realize with infusion there will have to be a 90 degree flange added for the bag and the spiral wound to go around the perimeter of the hull.

My question is with infusion will the plastic over the hull plug be enough or will I have to put another product over the mold itself before waxed or pva? My fear is attacking the foam plug.

After talks with a composite company I have decided to go with a 8.9oz hexcel s2 glass inside and out with a 5.5oz twill carbon/Kevlar sandwiched in the middle. After the hull is pulled off the plug inside the hull I plan to add 4" ribs every foot using a 2mm corefoam(maybe a better product) and a layer of biaxial carbon 815gam over the foam extending 1" beyond bothsides of the core foam. This is to act as ribs.

I am unsure what type of resin to use. They offer a infusion epoxy and poly. Look is not important as it will be painted and a light rough surface on the inside is ok to act as grip.

As for infusion It was suggested I run the resin ring using spiral wound around the parimeter of the flange at the bottom of the hull and then a single vac line using spiral wound from the transome to the front 2/3 of the bow along the keel. I know a peel ply and bagging material will be needed. A type of flow media? I have seen the MTI(may be different name) tube videos to get a small grasp.

Lastly I may be out in left field on this that what I’m her to find out.

Going for a very light strong hull.

below is a picture of the boat the plans were made off of, a picture of the male plug, and parts that were hand laid off the mold.(his boat was in the 125lb range im shooting for 50ish

I am more than willing to go to pm or even a phone call. I plan on trying a few small versions of the hull before I even attempt a full version of this thing. Mostly trying to get the mold I have useable for infusion if its even possible

Thanks for any help in advance
Josh
