Hi guys,
Working on a small boat mold and want to set it up for infusion. At the point of adding the flange/deck on and am thinking about when it comes time to actually infuse a hull. Everywhere I see, the vacuum is around the flange, and the resin feed is down at the bottom of the mold- making the vacuum have to pull the resin out and up against gravity. Wouldn’t it be better to put the resin feed up around the flange and the vacuum inlet(s) at the bottom so gravity is working for us? The only reason I can think of is “air wants to go up”. Any definitive answer?
You answered already: air wants to go up. And you do not want that in your laminate. A rule of thumb is to infuse upwards, against gravity.
Make sure you have generous flanges (4" minumum, 6" is nice) and you are good to go.
Thanks Herman… got it.
