Infusion leaking, the part is a rear spoiler bagged the part using flange,I could not find leak no matter how hard I tried,so I decided to envelope the part, the bag Is quit big but still leaking I must have spent 40 minutes pressing to make sure, checking the bag I noticed loads of nicks in bag,I have contacted easy composites they are sending replacement bagging film, just got home and checked to see how much pressure is lost,it is holding 25inch. Surely it should have completely lost all pressure, also not to sure if mesh is piercing bag, going to make another bag tomorrow, can anyone explain why pressure in bag has stabilised.
Mostly like it the bagging film, depending on specs of the film, and are you putting enough pleats for your resin and vacuum lines.
I made the bag way to big, I enveloped it,so no pleats needed, just a case of positioning bag when vaccum is pulling, there’s plenty of slack,so no bridging,i just can’t figure why it’s settling at 25inch.
Is it a stretchable bagging film?
Elongation is 400%. Even today still holding 25 inch, going to make another bag tonight and see what happens.
Take another bagging film, I know these problem with strechable bagging films.
Just received replacement film sent by easy composites,
Still bloody leaking with new bag it can only be film, going to have to try another type.
Do you have any holes in your vacuum system or feed lines?
What bag brand is it you’re using, a high stretch bag can develop leaks as you go, usually the film thickness of a stretchable bag is 1.5 mil. It gets pierced by the flow media, rough back-side of the mould etc…can all cause small holes, hard to chase down. Are you getting air into the part? If not, at 25 inch you can still pull an infusion, it’s on the low end of the scale and better at 28+ inches but do-able.
Continue to envelope it but try a heavier bag…likely the cause.
Did you check your equipment first before bagging anything? I make sure to leak test my pressure pot, lines, gauges etc. before bagging a part.
I once had a leak in the vacuum gauge, which I used to chase leaks. Took a while to find out!
However, if things are settling at 25, then probably the bag is at fault. A leak in the system would cause the vacuum to disappear completely.
Made another bag and solved problem, not really bloody still losing pressure, just about to make another bag, turned mould over found small holes in bag not sure how they got there.but now I no.
^ Sand down the back side of your mould, it happens to us all the time, as the mould gets used and ages, resin builds up, stuff gets stuck on the back side from the floor, dirty table etc…
It’s good you found them Also, a heavier bag makes a big diff.
Just returned from shed, ready to commit murder still leaks it must be bagging material from easy composite, I used to use violet film I will go back to that, every time I rebagged i left previous bag on,just trimmed at the edge, and also used another blanket,it must be the film.has anyone had issues with there film.
If you are using a bag with the 400% elongation that is your problem. DO NOT infuse with that kind of bag. the flow media WILL puncture the bag. Believe me, I’ve been there, done that… Just use a regular bag. If you don’t want to wait then purchase 4 or 6 mill plastic sheeting from a hardware store. That stuff works well in a pinch. TRUST ME.
Don’t see how having a bagging film with 400% elongation it the problem, I have only use Stretchlon 800 Bagging Film (450% plus elongation) for all my infusion and I have no problems with my vacuum pump get 30+ Hg or leaks. Leaks for infusion can come from the pleats, rein/vacuum lines or the bag.
You need to make sure that all your fittings from your pump to your pressure pot and gauges are totally leak FREE first.
It’s from easy composites but I have ordered 100 meter roll from Prf composites on Monday.
It depends on the type, stretchlon 800 is good, but drop down to a stretchlon 200 and you can’t vacuum bag a teddy bear without getting leak in it.
Agree 100% about Stretchlon 200, but a lot of people still buy and use it, it a total waste of money.
