Hi, pretty broad question… what would 50 yards of epoxy infused 3k twill carbon weigh? No clear coat, no hardware… just the weight of that carbon, infused.
That site isn’t helping me much. It’s telling me 10 pounds.
5 layers of 3k twill, 50 yards total, infused.
I get 75.425 kg with 200g/m²
Wow, that’s 165 pounds! Omg, that’s heavy as heck! I figure less than half of that. Thank you for a number I could wrap my mind around!
That number seemed too high to me so I ran it on the calculator provided above using 200 g/m^2 cloth…
+++++
Number of layers 5 Layers
Laminate thickness 1.13 mm
Fibre reinforcement surface area 41.81 m²
Fibre reinforcement gross weight 8361 g
Resin quantity 5432 g
Laminate weight 13793 g
Fibre content (weight) 60.6 %
Fibre content (volume) 50.0 %
+++++++
So total weight looks to be about 30.4 lb for 50 yards total (5 layers of 10 square yards each layer).
Thank you Harrisonaero, that was everything I needed to know and couldn’t figure out!
And thank you Roberto for giving us the tools to do it.
Just out of curiosity, what would that same layup weigh in 1.5 ounce CSM and vinyl ester?
A little tough love here… but if you want to do much of this stuff you really should calculate out these things. The math isn’t that hard, especially with calculators freely available. It’s like learning a foreign language- you just have to start doing it to learn and slowly it will come.
Thanks for the info
I start getting confused because everything is in metric. If we were talking inches, yards, pounds, ounces it’d be a snap. Lol, you should see me try to figure out celcius!
