infuse a overlay?

I did a overlay on my race bike tank for practice and the overlay thing is not for me, fabric coming up bla bla bla same old stuff.

So, I plan to do my 2nd bike in silver like my FZ1 and a overlay on the tank in Texalium is out of the question without bagging it. I see a problem when it comes to vacuum bagging the wet Texalium overlay, the fabric lifts then put the vac on= weave all screwed up.

Anyone infuse a overlay? I think thats what I will try.

save yourself time and money!! Lay on a “somewhat” thicker layer of resin let it tack up and lay the fabric on. Timing is the KEY! you have to get it at the right time for the resin to hold down the fabric.

Or

Lay on a thin layer of resin, let it get to the almost gel stage but still “gooey”, put down the fabric, make sure to trim all the edges and then bag it. This is why you want a thin layer with this method. you don’t want the resin coming to the top or in contact with the bag. You just want to use the bag to hold the fabric untill the resin finally gels. This method gives a 100% contact and prevents possible delam

OR

Sometimes I’ll still have some lift on quick overlays that I dont’ bag, if that happens I’ll use saran wrap and a couple of clips on the other side to hold it in place.

many ways to skin a cat, if you manage to find a way to infuse an overlay and have a decent sanding layer of resin please let me know

youve obviously not used the texallium.

Id do the thick layer of resin…use the slow “summer” catalyst and bag it till it cured…then just brush the coats on.

Man thats a lot of work. good luck mang…Im pulling for you.

Infusing overlays is not totally out of the question. Just requires some extra work and materials.
Place perforated release film on top of the layup instead of peel ply. Then put the flow media on top of that. You need to make sure there are no wrinkles in the release film though, or you’ll be sanding them down for a while.
