In Mold Clear Coat Top Coat

I am looking at this for carbon fiber overlays so i can spray it. Epoxy can’t be sprayed due to health anbd safety, so I’m thinking of switching to Duratec so i can spray my clear top coats on cf overlay parts.

Duratec Vinyl Ester Clear Top Coat. Yep you can also spray it directly into the mold.

I see it says when using this for Vacuum infusion of polyester/vinylester resins leave 30-45 min after spraying before laying up and for epoxy leave 3-4 hrs. It’s intended to be touch dry but will the infused part get a perfect bond to it in this case.
Obviously with some parts layup can go on much longer before infusing. Any idea on exactly how long it can be left in mold before being infused over? Could you spray a couple of moulds in the morning and layup as the day goes on. I’m presuming not but just wondering if anyone knows.

it can be left in mold several days, just need to scotch brite the surface for good adhesion

Duratec Top Coat does not help with UV protection.

No UV inhibitor or protection… bummer. I always 2K urethane clear coat our parts anyhow. I was hoping it was uv stable though.

I have noticed nothing Duratec makes is uv stable/resistant.

i spray it late in the day, then let it sit over night.then layup the next morning.it still has a tacky surface.that has worked fine for me.one warning when spraying this stuff.its very hard to not get fish eyes.the only thing that has worked for me,is to spray very fine coats.waiting a few minutes between coats.i always spray clear over the part when its finished.the duratech keeps all the pits out of the carbon.so your finish time is greatly reduced.

Do you have to put down a layer of epoxy and let it gel before you start laminating to avoid the waffle pattern with pits between the tows?
