in a pinch, where to find PER?

I’m looking for somewhere to pick up some clear, or fairly clear PER. I got a quickity quick overlay to do for someone, however I usually only deal with epoxies and it would require a good bit.

Do any boat supply stores, or home depot type places offer a PER that’s UV stable and clear, or close to clear.

Or can I buy some from anyone on here?

I use AVT in Indianapolis

haha, crap, I totally just made an order with them yesterday too, could have lumped it all together.

I looked at their catalog and they seem to only have epoxies?

nvm. I learned to use the scroll button

just re-read their site, they can’t ship their PER because of UPS and DOT restrictions.

what to do, what to do.

Any surfboard or marine places near you?

Also try some hobby / crafts type of shops too for Crystal clear casting resin too…?

there’s a west marine, and Boater’s world; last time I checked west marine all they had was “boater’s resin” which has a very visible brown hue to it.

I’m also going to the beach on saturday, so maybe i’ll see if there are any surfboard places.

Is it both the MEKP and Styrene mix that are classified as hazardous to ship? I bought PER through FibreGlast.com… they shipped it. I also bought some tooling gel coat through fiberlay.com and they shipped that too. Just got to find a different internet supplier maybe.:o

Back in the day I used to work for “Michaels Arts and Crafts”, they sell clear casting resin… crystal clear by the quart.

I know if you ever need MEKP HomeDepot sells it individually in tubes.

Silmar surfboard resin is clear, but seem to remember they do UV stablished and non UV stablised, so might be worth asking if you can find any. This resin is though pretty thin, and may not be ideal for overlays.

Another option would be the resin used to make things like clear sheeting material for roof lights etc, which might be more suitable for your application.

Casting resins seem to be ideal for this type of application, but in common with the Silmar they are often very thin, and can be very difficult to apply in some circumstances.

I found a composites shop about an hour from my house

www.sweetcomposites.com

so chances are I’ll have to use the VER they sell for now, but oh well, maybe they have some PER in stock.

thank you all for the suggestions!

So I’ve had no lucking finding a clear PER locally and my deadline doesn’t permit ordering from any distance really.

So, my local marine supply stores carry West Marine and Evercoat PERs. I’m curious if anyone has tried them and are they clear enough on a dark surface w/ Carbon twill?

Or will the brown hue show through?
